I seemed to have left my motivation at work every afternoon this week but did manage to create a new card tonight. I used the sketch at Caardvarks May Challenge but also tried to fit some other elements in for several other challenges.
For this card I used Cameo Coral, Whisper White and Vellum Stampin' Up CS as well as DCWV Nana's Nursery patterened paper. I used Close to Cocoa and Cameo Coral inks and Offray ribbons.
The flowers on the side are made from CS cut out with the SU scallop circle punch and a smaller Fiskars scallop circle punch. To create these mums you need to punch 3scallop circles and run through a crimping machine many times, as many as 10. This breaks down the paper fibers so that the layers will separate easily. Then you crumple the crimped circles several times. Look at the edges, they should be starting to come apart. Gently pull the pieces apart giving you 2 wrinkled scallop circles per punch. I also inked the edges of my circles on both sides with Close to Cocoa ink to age them slightly. If you choose to do this step, do so gently. Now layer your 6 circles and poke a hole in the center. Secure with a small brad then start with the top circle and start crumpling it toward the center. Continue this step until all 6 circles are wrinkled up and Viola! You have a Mum!!
I ran the Whisper White cardstock through my Sizzix machine with my Stampin' Up texturz plate. I used Spellbinders Nestabilities Circles for the image and mat paper. The Vellum was cut using my Fiskars round border punch and inked.
The image is a Stampin' Up image from 2003 that was colored using Tim Holtz Distress Inks and an aquapainter. This is easy to do. Take a piece of transparency film and stamp a square of ink on it. Spritz it with a quick mist of water because Distress Ink is activated by water. Now you have a watercolor pallette! Paint away! The skin on the mother and the baby were colored using Copic Markers as well as Mom's hair. The sentiment is from the same stamp set. Thanks for looking and ENJOY!

What a sweet card! Love the vellum and the handmade flowers. I tried to leave a comment on your card the other day but blogger was playing up and wouldn't let me.
ReplyDeleteI totally relate to the muddy paws and dog hair over everything! What sort of dogs do you have? Viv :)
Thanks for all the lovely comments! =) Viv, I rescue and try to take on the ones that may be left behind/PTS because of problems/health issues. I have labs and pitbulls! The biggest bunch of squishy marshmellows you've ever seen! How about you?
ReplyDeleteI've got 2 toy poodles, an elderly golden retreiver girl and have a rehomed 20 month-old golden boy...he's a bit of a handful and VEEEEERRRY energetic! LOL! I'm training him in agility and he's coming along so well. They're all very cuddly though and all lie around me while I'm at my desk! They're our babies!
